Cupping therapy is ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. This modality has become very popular with Olympic athletes as well as many celebrities. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage. Cupping is thought to draw blood to the affected area, reducing soreness and speeding healing of overworked muscles. Benefits can include increased lymphatic flow, soft tissue release, loosening of connective tissue and increased circulation.
